A visitor
Today I had a visitor. I was busy vacuuming my place because I was expecting guests, and I wanted to make a good impression. Besides, I am trying to be a person who is cleanly. There was a ringing at the front door. I picked up the speaker phone, and I could hear the voice of a beggar. He said he knew the landlord. His name was John. To cut a long story short, he wanted food.
Thinking of the scripture about giving to those who ask, and partaking in blessings, and not turning a stranger away, I collected some goodies for him, some bread, a tomato, some cold meat, mayo, an apple, some salad, etc, and gave it to him. Still he pleaded for more. He wanted clothes for a woman, so off I went, rummaged through my clothes and checked if there was something I did not mind giving away, thinking to myself, what am I not taking to Korea? That I can give to her (his wife?).
As I gave him the bag, we got into a conversation. Don't ask me how, but I made a comment. Oh right! I was a bit suspicious of him. He had said he knew my landlord, but he mentioned neither his name nor the dog's name, just their coming and going, and any passerby or lurker can see that. So he mentioned he knew my landlord, that he walked his dog every day, without break, and I said, yes, he is a good man.
He became defensive and said, I am a good man! And I said, there is no one good except God. And he said he believed in God and was the son of Jesus, which technically is not quite the case, but I did not want to become technical. I got his point. He was a child of God, he said, and he doesn't do bad. He kept me there, wanting to talk, wanting to know if I am married, etc. I was getting cynical and sceptical, thinking of the dream I had had last night, about a black man coming to my window, and I needed to kick him off.
Strangely he said to me, when he sees me, he sees a prophet, and I thought, he is just saying that to appease me. I asked him if he has a Bible, and he said he didn't. He asked me to ask my friends, and I told him to ask around for a Bible, or else save up some money and buy himself a Bible. I told him he will tell people about Jesus, and he will shine the light for everyone to see, and I told him his life will change when he reads the Bible.
He wanted a handshake, and I saw his broken nail, bent in backwards, and I was slightly freaked out by the whole incident, to be perfectly honest, but I prayed on my way up the stairs that he is not planning an attack on me or my apartment, and that he will indeed find the Lord and find a Bible and study the Word, and indeed I pray that he brings the light to the people of the world, whoever is in his vicinity.
