Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
When my cup runs out, I refill it with something else. When my supply is at its end, I reach out.
So God endows Woman with certain qualities that are essential to relationship, qualities that speak of God. She is inviting. She is vulnerable. She is tender. She embodies mercy. She is also fierce and fiercely devoted. As the old saying goes, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." That's just how God acts when he isn't chosen. "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not share your affection with any other god!" (Ex 20:5 NLT). A woman's righteous jealousy speaks of the jealousy of God for us. (from Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge).
When I read this passage in the famous Christian novel for women, "Captivating", I felt understood and justified. Justified because it explained to me that as much as I was a woman who was inviting, vulnerable, tender and merciful, I was also fiercely devoted, and when I was not chosen, I became furious. This passage made sense to me. This passage also made sense of me.
When relationships fail, we can conclude that we are not endowed with the right qualities to make relationships work. We can think we do not possess the characteristics others have. We can judge and criticize ourselves. When we are rejected, we feel utterly ashamed of ourselves. We feel ashamed of who we are. We think we are not good enough.
I have learnt that relationships prosper even when we are imperfect. A relationship can flourish even when we do not possess all the qualities we think we ought to have. When we are blessed to be in a relationship in love, there suddenly is acceptance without cause, lack of judgement and criticism without justification, and admiration where none is expected.
It is God who knows what we need. There is only so much we can do in our own strength, God's power will ensure we get not only what we want but what we need. He will make all things disappear and we will believe, we are alone, but God is simply clearing the way for Himself, for what He wants to give us. And God's gift is far greater than what we could have attained ourselves.
My cup had run dry, and though I filled it up myself, God emptied it out, and then He filled it Himself. Thank You for who You have given me now.
